He is rarely the flashiest pitcher in the Yankees rotation, but he has pitched at least 150 innings in each of the past four seasons with just one season with an ERA over 3.75. His strikeout numbers are nothing too special, but against the 2019 Tigers he is sure to rack up some punchouts.Due to the injury to Luis Severino, Tanaka took the mound on Opening Day and gave up just one earned run over 5 鈪?innings against the Orioles. He struck out five without surrendering any walks and was able to turn the ball over to the dominant Yankees bullpen to earn the win.The one area where the 30-year-old has struggled historically is with the long ball. His 1.92 home runs per nine innings were a career high last season, and though he looked good in his first outing of 2019, he did post a fly ball rate over 50 percent.
